Essential Oils
Learn More & Purchase Essential Oils Carol Komitor, founder of the Healing Touch for Animals® Program, incorporated the use of essential oils within the HTA curriculum based on her energetic understanding of animals and her knowledge of the healing properties in plants. The energetic awareness of the animal’s instinctual nature and the healing constituents of the plants provide a powerful synergy to aid healing and maintain well-being. Carol’’s pioneering work and great success with the use of essential oils on animals has positioned her as a leader in this field.
Essential Oils and the HTA Curriculum
The essential oil training is formally presented in the HTA curriculum in Level 3, Level 4 and Advance Proficiency. A monthly teleconference is also offered specifically for Practitioners using therapeutic grade essential oils for animals.
Many students are eager to begin their essential oil knowledge prior to Level 3 and HTA is willing to support those who wish to utilize the use essential oils for their animals.
Therapeutic grade essential oils provide a natural addition to the healing effects of the Healing Touch for Animals® techniques.
As Carol Komitor explored essential oils, she noticed a remarkable difference in her own health and in the health of her clients’ with the use of these oils. Specific essential oil suggestions given to her clients, both people and animals provided an added healing result. She saw wounds and injuries heal faster, joint and muscle pain decrease, respiratory issues clear and immune systems strengthen with the use of essential oils. Carol witnessed the powerful effect the essential oils offered to help stabilize emotional concerns while helping with behavior issues or trauma the animals experienced. In addition, the essential oils provided a calming presence for stress relief for both humans and animals.
With the exploration and study of the healing properties of plants and the therapeutic grade essential oils, Carol is compelled to help educate those interested in the value of essential oils in relationship to healing. She is dedicated to teach the different essential oil applications to animals in comparison to people.
Carol has found that the animal’s system (both physical and energetic) are much more receptive to the healing properties of the essential oils than humans, therefore, less is more. Using far less essential oils with animals is more effective than using the human essential oil application.
Animals are very receptive to the essential oils because they are a closer part of nature and their energy system is affected at a greater level. They generally receive the oils easily and gain the benefit of the individual oil or blend of oils.
Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils
A “therapeutic grade” essential oil is one that has been processed through steam distillation at the appropriate temperature in order to draw out the vibrational frequency and the healing properties of the plants. The quality control is a vital part of bringing out all the healing properties of the plants in a concentrated manner. The oils contain many constituents that determine the use of the essential oil and its benefits. If the quality does not meet standards of healing, the essential oil is classified as “perfume grade”.
The Healing Touch for Animals® essential oils teaching aligns with Young Living Essential Oil products. Young Living is the world leader in the development of therapeutic grade essential oils and provides quality products for their independent distributors.
There are other companies that provide therapeutic grade essential oils and properly cultivate, distill and produce their products with quality control testing. The consumer needs to be aware of the research, cultivation and production of any essential oil product before they buy.
How to apply the Essential Oils
The basic application for any essential oil is through inhalation. Most oils can be applied topically and some can be ingested. It is recommended that a small amount of essential oil is applied to animals. Their instinctual nature and acceptance of the healing properties of the essential oils are absorbed into their systems much easier than that of a human. It is imperative that the use of any essential oil with animals is monitored carefully.
Essential Oil Application for Cats
Cats do not have the enzyme that metabolizes the phenol chemical constituent contained in some essential oils. It is vital that the aroma therapist obtain a solid understanding of what each essential oil contains in their chemical matrix before applying to a cat. Excessive use of phenol related essential oils may cause toxicity in the body which may result in serious illness or even death.
Caution is needed when using essential oils containing phenols or benzyl alcohols. These constituents that are naturally held within the plants are highly toxic to cats and should not be used. Phenols and benzyl alcohols are water soluble and rapidly absorb into the body, which may cause liver damage. Cats do not have an enzyme that assimilates the phenols and benzyl alcohols.
Essential Oils containing Hydrosols are ok to use with cats. Hydrosols are safe to use with cats because the hydrosol properties can appropriately process through the cat’s liver.
Dilution of essential oils, with a carrier oil is generally recommended when using essential oils with cats.

Application of Essential Oils through Inhalation – A Story About Essential Oils
I have been in private practice with an energy-based human business for over twelve years. I also teach advanced practice, energy-based coursework in the field of energy medicine education. In addition to my hands-on and psychotherapy practice, I use essential oils on a limited basis. Although I have some clients who expect the oils when I work with them, I don’t feel that I actually understood their impact on health and healing until I experienced them in the HTA Level 4 class.
I used essential oils while working with the horses in Carol’s class this last weekend and what I witnessed was nothing short of miraculous! The demo horse that Carol worked on had had surgery on his leg. At first the horse was so sensitive to Carol’s presence near his leg that he danced away from her as she attempted to smooth the surgical site with the healing oil. When she offered the horse a sniff’ of what she was attempting to apply, the horse visibly settled with understanding. He didn’t move at all as she made the second attempt to apply the oils down his leg. He dropped his head, settled into his stance and accepted the application willingly.
The horse that I offered the oils to, showed not only an understanding of what they were for by eagerly accepting them (moving closer, breathing deeply and holding very still, almost like she was savoring them), but also responded with a deep calming reverence (relaxed breathing, dropping her head and licking, not even moving a muscle and a glazed over look, as though she were in meditation). An added benefit was that this particular mare was pregnant and her unborn foal also responded to the oils by stilling and relaxing.
The peacefulness in the barn encompassed not only the horses and practitioners, but extended out to all the other critters. If they can have this effect on 5+acres, I am eager to see what impact they have on my human clients (their families and households) when applied with more understanding and intention.
I feel that I learned an amazing amount this weekend about things I thought I knew. That in and of itself is a joy, but the people I was able to share the weekend with I consider a welcomed addition to my referral base and the ”best of the best’ when it comes to animal care.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
